In a major step towards strengthening Tripura’s dairy sector and enhancing the income of livestock rearers, the State Government on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and the Gomati Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Limited to implement the ambitious “White Revolution 2.0” programme in the state.
The agreement was signed during a ceremony held at Conference Hall No. 2 of the State Secretariat in the presence of Chief Minister Prof. Dr Manik Saha. The MoU aims to formulate and implement a Comprehensive Cooperative Dairy Development Plan (CCDDP) in Tripura, in line with the national vision of White Revolution 2.0.
The agreement was signed by Deepa D. Nair, Secretary of the Animal Resources Development Department, on behalf of the Government of Tripura; Dr. Sabyasachi Roy, Regional Head (Northeast), NDDB, on behalf of the Board; and Ratan Ghosh, Chairman of the Gomati Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Limited, on behalf of the Union.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha said the state government is implementing several initiatives to boost milk production and make livestock rearers financially and socially self-reliant. He emphasized that the dairy sector has immense potential to improve the income of farmers and livestock rearers while strengthening the rural economy.
Referring to Gujarat’s success in milk production and dairy development, the Chief Minister said the western state has become a model for the country and expressed hope that Tripura would also emerge as a leading dairy-producing state in the future. He envisioned the growth of a strong dairy movement in Tripura that could eventually gain national recognition.
The Chief Minister further stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Tripura is making progress across various sectors and that the dairy industry could become a key contributor to the state’s economic development.
Speaking on the occasion, Animal Resources Development, Fisheries and Scheduled Caste Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das described the signing of the MoU as a landmark development for Tripura. He said the initiative would not only help increase milk production but also create sustainable livelihood opportunities and open new avenues for the socio-economic advancement of livestock rearers.
Das noted that milk production in the state has been steadily increasing and assured that the government is taking several measures to further strengthen the sector.
Cooperation Minister Shuklacharan Noatia highlighted the positive changes witnessed in the cooperative sector since the present government assumed office. He said the administration is committed to bringing the cooperative movement closer to the people and strengthening cooperative institutions. He also stressed the important role cooperatives can play in realizing the vision of a “Viksit Bharat.”
NDDB Chairman Dr. Meenesh Shah and Gomati Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Chairman Ratan Ghosh also addressed the gathering, outlining plans for expanding cooperative-based dairy production, improving market access, and ensuring the welfare of livestock rearers in the state.
The programme was attended by senior officials, including Tapas Roy, Secretary of the Cooperation Department, Dr. Neeraj Kumar Chanchal, Director of the Animal Resources Development Department, representatives of the NDDB, and members of the Board of Directors of the Gomati Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Limited.
The MoU is expected to provide a significant boost to Tripura’s dairy industry and help create a sustainable framework for increasing milk production, strengthening cooperative institutions, and improving the livelihoods of thousands of dairy farmers across the state.
