BJP-Congress faceoff in Lok Sabha over two-day Constitution debate

New Delhi/IBNS: A two-day debate on the Constitution is set to showcase an intense faceoff between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and primary opposition Congress in parliament's lower house Lok Sabha.
The debate has been called to mark 75 years of the country's Constitution.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will begin the BJP's campaign followed by 12-15 other parliamentarians from the treasury bench.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will wrap it up with his speech on Saturday.
The BJP is likely to attack the Opposition over the "fake narratives" allegedly peddled during the 2024 parliamentary elections.
The ruling camp will also look to attack the Congress over the 1975 Emergency which was called by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
For Congress, it would be first-term MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who would lead the charge and also make her debut speech in parliament.
"The Modi government is misusing the autonomous institutions of the country, which is not right at all. That is why we wanted there to be a discussion on the Constitution, so that everyone knows how the government is being run," Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge told ANI.

Former Karnataka chief minister and Lok Sabha MP Basavaraj Bommai said, "The Constitution will be strengthened by the two-day debate on the Constitution and the falsehood propagated regarding the Constitution will also stop..."
The debate will be held amid the logjam in parliament over Sonia Gandhi-George Soros' alleged link.
The BJP on Sunday alleged Sonia was linked to George Soros funded Forum of Democratic Leaders in the Asia-Pacific (FDL-AP) and she served the organisation in the capacity of the co-president.
The BJP has alleged Soros founded organisation supported the idea of Kashmir as an independent nation.
The party also claimed that the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, under Sonia Gandhi’s chairmanship, partnered with the Soros Foundation, "demonstrating the impact of foreign funding on Indian organizations."
