BJP's decision to switch my seat was wrong: Dilip Ghosh after TMC sweeps Bengal in Lok Sabha polls

Kolkata/IBNS: Bharatiya Janata Party national vice president Dilip Ghosh has criticised the top brass' decision to switch his seat from Medinipur to Burdwan-Durgapur after he was defeated by Trinamool Congress candidate, former cricketer Kirti Azad.

Not just Ghosh, BJP too has been decimated by the TMC in the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls.

Ghosh, who was elected to Lok Sabha from Medinipur in 2019, said, "BJP's organisation was decimated at one point of time. I reached out to all villages to refuel energy in the organisation in Medinipur.

"All party workers were in my favour. For whatever may be the reason, the party had decided to switch me to some other seat. It is now proved that the decision was wrong."

The former BJP state president also pointed at the party's weak organisation as one of the reasons behind its drubbing once again in the state, where it has never ruled.

"The organisation of the party has weakened. We struggled to even get booth agents. We were weak in organisation so the vote percentage tanked across the state," he said.

Ghosh, who is credited for BJP's meteoric rise in West Bengal politics after he became state chief in 2015, defeated veteran politician and TMC candidate Manas Bhunia from Medinipur in 2019.

But in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, Ghosh was replaced by BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul as the candidate from Medinipur, which was won by TMC candidate, actress-politician June Maliah.

Across the state, it was Mamata Banerjee-led TMC's storm as it won 29 out of 42 seats defying all exit polls. The BJP could manage to win only 12, 6 down from its 2019 tally.
