Bengaluru/IBNS: A year after Congress came to power in Karnataka, it seems Lingayats, Vokkaligas, Kurubas and minorities have rallied behind the BJP in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, if one goes by the exit polls.

As per Axis My India's exit polls, Karnataka will vote in favour of the BJP, which was ousted from power a year ago.

In an analytical report by India Today, about 80 percent of the Lingayats, the community from where BJP picked 9 candidates, have voted for the saffron camp.

BJP's appointment of BY Vijayendra as the party's state unit president is also observed as a reason behind such a voting pattern.

The Vokkaligas are presumed to have voted in favour of the BJP as well, the exit polls claim.

The JDS, which is in alliance with BJP, is likely to win all three seats in the Old Mysore region. The seats are Kolar, Mandya and Hassan.

Former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy and his nephew Prajwal Revanna, who has been arrested in connection with sexual assault case, are likely to win going by the same trends among the Vokkaligas.

The BJP, as per the exit polls, are also catching up with the Congress in terms of vote share of Kurubas. While 50 percent of Kurubas have sided with the Congress, 46 percent of them are projected to be choosing BJP.

As per the India Today-Axis My India survey, the BJP is likely to win 23-25, Congress 3-5 out of 28 seats.

The poll results will be declared on June 4.
