Kolkata/IBNS: Actor and former Trinamool Congress MP Nusrat Jahan appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday after being summoned in connection with an alleged housing fraud case, according to media reports.
She was accompanied by her actor partner Yash Dasgupta as she reached the ED office in Kolkata.
Summons and appearance
Nusrat had reportedly requested to appear before the ED’s Delhi office, but her plea was turned down.
What is the case about?
The case pertains to alleged fund siphoning involving buyers who had paid in advance to Seven Senses Infrastructure Pvt Ltd to purchase flats in the New Town area of Kolkata.
The ED registered a case against Nusrat over her alleged association as one of the directors of the company, which is accused of duping several senior citizens by promising residential flats.
A complaint was filed by a group of citizens alleging that the real estate firm cheated them by failing to deliver the promised flats.
Nusrat’s role and claims
Nusrat, who was a former director of the company, has claimed that she resigned in 2017 after settling her dues.
She had earlier appeared before the ED for questioning in 2023.
Nusrat Jahan’s clarification
At a press conference in 2023, Nusrat said, “The company, which I had quit in 2017, had given me a loan but I have returned it back with interest. I have all my bank statements.”
“I have the details of my bank transactions. If someone needs to check, they can approach the court for a copy. I am three hundred percent away from corruption,” she added while addressing reporters at the Kolkata Press Club.
