Srinagar/IBNS: A fashion show with semi-nude men and women walking the ramp in skimpy clothes has drawn massive flak with the religious and political leaders calling it an act of demolishing the valley's cultural values.

At an event held in Gulmarg, men and women were seen walking on the snowy slopes in revealing attires.

The Elle India fashion show was organised by couturier duo Shivam and Narresh to showcase Kashmir's peaceful revival after the abrogation of Article 370.

The fashion show has not gone down well with the hardliners.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who is the chief priest of Srinagar's Jama Masjid and separatist Hurriyat Conference's chairman, called the fashion show "outrageous" and said "obscene fashion show" can't be tolerated in the Holy month of Ramzan.

Farooq posted on X, "Outrageous! That In the holy month of Ramzan an obscene fashion show is organised in #Gulmarg, pictures & videos from which have gone viral sparking shock and anger among people.

"How could it be tolerated in the valley known for its sufi, saint culture and the deeply religious outlook of its people? Those involved should be immediately held accountable. Such obscenity in the name of tourism promotion will not be tolerated in #Kashmir.!"

J&K People's Conference president Sajad Lone wrote on X, "The fashion show in Gulmarg was an eminently avoidable event, in the holy month of Ramadan.

"I consider myself to be person of liberal orientation, and believe in dignified and mutually respectful coexistence. But this was not the best time to host such an event."

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has sought a report within 24 hours and assured action in strong condemnation of the fashion show.

"The shock and anger are totally understandable. The images I have seen show a complete disregard for local sensitivities and that too during this holy month," the Chief Minister said as quoted by NDTV.

Facing the flak, Shivam and Narresh have apologised with a clarification.

The duo wrote on X, "We deeply regret any hurt caused by our recent presentation in Gulmarg during the holy month of Ramadan. Our sole intention was to celebrate creativity and the ski & après-ski lifestyle, without any desire to offend anyone or any religious sentiments."

"Respect for all cultures and traditions is at our heart, and we acknowledge the concerns raised. We sincerely apologize for any unintended discomfort and appreciate the feedback from our community. We remain committed to being more mindful and respectful. "
