Haryana Congress MLA’s son accused in Rs 400 cr real estate fraud, caught roaming freely despite judicial custody

Rohtak (Haryana): Sikandar Singh, son of Haryana Congress MLA Dharam Singh Chhoker, who was arrested in connection with a Rs 400 crore money laundering case, has been seen outside a hospital in Rohtak, raising serious concerns about his judicial custody, media reports said.

Singh and his father are accused of defrauding over 1,500 homebuyers through their real estate firm by falsifying construction expenses, according to an India Today report.

Sikandar was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in March, but his bail request was denied by the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

However, recent reports indicate that he has been manipulating medical records to evade imprisonment.

Singh was admitted to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) in Rohtak twice — from September 2 to 16 and again from September 26 — although sources claim he does not have any serious health issues.

CCTV footage and medical records reveal that Sikandar Singh has been unlawfully leaving the hospital, despite being in judicial custody.

He has been spotted using an SUV, staying in hotels, and even campaigning for the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections. These actions are in direct violation of legal protocols, the report said.

This revelation comes just after the Punjab and Haryana High Court ordered the ED and Haryana Police to arrest Sikandar’s father, Dharam Singh Chhoker, within 24 hours if he fails to surrender.

Chhoker, who is seeking re-election from the Samalkha constituency, has been evading arrest despite a non-bailable warrant and has several criminal charges against him.

The ED took over the investigation into Chhoker and his son in 2023 after a First Information Report (FIR) was filed by Gurgaon police.

The duo allegedly defrauded homebuyers through their company, Mihira Group, by launching a real estate project in Sector 68, Gurugram, and collecting Rs 363 crore from over 1,500 buyers.

Despite promises to deliver affordable housing by 2021-22, the project remains incomplete.
