Humanitarian Assistance: India sends consignment of 90 tonnes of nine Made In India Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients to Cuba
India on Sunday sent a consignment of approx 90 tonnes of nine Made in India Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients ( APIs) to Cuba on Sunday.
The consignment left Mundra port earlier in the day.

A consignment of 90 tonnes of nine ‘Made in India’ APIs left Mundra port for Cuba today. The APIs will support manufacture of essential medicines.

"These APIs will be used by the Cuban Drug Manufacturers to produce essential antibiotics in the dosage form of tablets, capsules, syrups and injections, needed for treatment of chronic communicable diseases," read a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs.
The assistance reaffirms India’s status as the "Pharmacy of the World” and underlines our commitment to historic friendship with Cuba, the statement said.
As per Indian Embassy's website,India and Cuba enjoy excellent bilateral relations and have been traditionally warm and friendly.
India was among the first countries to extend recognition to the new Cuban government following Cuban Revolution in January 1959.
The visit of Major Ernesto Guevera (Che) to India from 30 June to 4 July 1959 consolidated diplomatic ties which fructified in opening embassies in respective capitals.
The first head of the Mission presented credentials on 12 January 1960 in Havana.
