India-Greece defence partnership gets stronger with fresh agreement

The two leaders reaffirmed that the India-Greece Strategic Partnership is anchored in shared values of peace, stability, freedom and mutual respect.

Both sides agreed to expand the capacity of their respective indigenous defence industries by aligning India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative with Greece’s defence reforms under its ‘Agenda 2030’.

“A Joint Declaration of Intent on strengthening defence industrial cooperation between India and Greece was signed, marking the starting point for developing a five-year roadmap,” a government statement said.

The Defence Ministers discussed regional peace and security issues and acknowledged the deepening of bilateral defence cooperation and strategic ties. They also exchanged a Bilateral Military Cooperation Plan for 2026, outlining future engagements between the armed forces of the two nations.

The meeting highlighted convergence between the two ancient seafaring nations on key maritime issues.

In a significant development, the Greek side announced the positioning of a Greek International Liaison Officer at the Information Fusion Centre–Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR) in Gurugram, aimed at strengthening maritime domain awareness and cooperation.

Earlier, the Greek Defence Minister laid a wreath at the National War Memorial, paying homage to soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in service of the nation. He also inspected the Tri-Service Guard of Honour at the Manekshaw Centre.

During the visit, the Hellenic delegation toured key defence and industrial establishments in Bengaluru and interacted with representatives from Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs), the defence industry and start-ups in New Delhi.

The visit reaffirms the growing strategic partnership between India and the Hellenic Republic, built on longstanding warm and close ties between the two countries and their peoples.
