The facility, located in Punjab province, was among the nine terror locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) targeted by India on May 7, 2025, following the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people.
The strikes targeted infrastructure linked to terrorist organisations, including the Lashkar-e-Taiba’s (LeT) base in Muridke and the JeM stronghold in Bahawalpur.
According to a report by India Today, the JeM camp in Bahawalpur has been restored with new marble, fresh paint and plaster, while damaged domes have also been rebuilt.
The report said impact craters in the central hall have been filled and the structure refurbished, effectively concealing the damage caused by the Indian strikes.
Citing intelligence sources, India Today reported that the Pakistani establishment provided PKR 25 crore to JeM in cash instalments for the restoration work, with around PKR 11 crore allegedly spent on rebuilding the central hall.
Structures adjoining the main complex, including Madrasa Al-Sabir and residential quarters reportedly used by JeM commanders, have also been cleared. New construction is expected to come
up at the sites, according to the report.
The JeM facility was targeted as part of Operation Sindoor, launched by India in response to the April 22, 2025, terror attack in Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in Jammu and Kashmir, in which 26 people were killed.
On May 7, the Indian Armed Forces carried out precision strikes against nine terror sites across Pakistan and PoK. The targeted infrastructure was reportedly linked to terrorist organisations including the JeM, LeT and Hizbul Mujahideen.
Indian officials had described the Muridke facility as a terrorist infrastructure hub. Pakistan, however, has maintained that the site was a mosque and an educational complex that came under attack. Muridke is located around 40 km from Lahore.
