J&K: Gurez Valley in Bandipora District witnesses surge in tourism; locals transform homes into homestays
Gurez Valley, located along the Line of Control (LoC) in Bandipora district in Jammu and Kashmir is experiencing a significant increase in tourism this year, with a growing number of trekkers and visitors flocking to its scenic villages.

Both local and out-of-town tourists have been visiting the valley in large numbers over the past few weeks, prompting the residents to convert their homes into homestays, just as they did last year, reported Good Morning Kashmir,
This accommodation option not only efficiently caters to the rising influx of tourists but also provides a livelihood for the local population.
Demonstrating their commitment to developing Gurez Valley as a premier tourist destination, the authorities have planned a series of exciting events in the coming months. These events, including cultural festivals, adventure sports competitions, and traditional craft exhibitions, aim to showcase the region's natural wonders and cultural heritage.
The diverse range of activities curated by the administration seeks to promote Gurez Valley's unique offerings and establish it as a must-visit destination.
As summer approaches, the locals in Gurez eagerly await the arrival of more tourists, and preparations for their visit are in full swing. Anticipating a higher number of tourists compared to last year, the residents are gearing up to accommodate the massive influx of visitors.
Notably, a local resident, Bashir Ahmad, has converted his house into a museum to preserve the local Dard-Shin culture and traditions from the encroachment of modernity while attracting tourists.
Ahmad is diligently safeguarding the old culture; however, he expressed disappointment that the younger generation seems less interested in it.
Nevertheless, the museum has garnered significant attention from tourists, with many prioritizing it over the cultural aspects that Ahmad strives to protect.
