As the ongoing heat wave continues to push temperatures higher across Tripura, the use of air conditioners is increasing rapidly, with many households installing new AC units. In view of this growing demand, the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) has issued an important public advisory to ensure consumer safety and uninterrupted power supply.
TSECL has urged consumers to increase their sanctioned electrical load at the nearest TSECL office before installing a new air conditioner. According to the utility, operating an AC without upgrading the approved electrical load can place excessive stress on the household electrical system, increasing the risk of short circuits, electrical fires, damage to meters and wiring, and disruptions to power supply in surrounding areas.
The corporation emphasized that consumers should not compromise safety for the sake of saving a small amount of time or money. Anyone planning to purchase or install a new air conditioner is advised to first contact the nearest TSECL office and complete the necessary load enhancement procedure. This will not only ensure the safety of their family but also help maintain the stability and reliability of the power distribution network.
TSECL through press statement urged that consumers that they should increase their sanctioned electrical load through TSECL before installing a new air conditioner, get the AC professionally serviced at least once every year, keep the outdoor unit clean and free from obstructions, set the AC temperature between 24°C and 26°C for efficient operation, maintain indoor humidity between 40% and 60% and make sure the electrical system has proper earthing.
TSECL also said that do not operate a new air conditioner without increasing the approved electrical load, do not neglect regular maintenance and servicing of your AC, should avoid using multiple high-power electrical appliances on the same circuit simultaneously and do not choose an air conditioner with the wrong capacity for the size of your room.
TSECL reiterated that consumer awareness and safe electrical practices are the most effective ways to prevent accidents. The corporation stated that increasing the sanctioned electrical load before installing a new AC, ensuring regular maintenance, and following the utility's safety guidelines will not only protect families from electrical hazards but also promote energy conservation, improve the reliability of the power system, and contribute to environmental sustainability.
