Man uses voice-modifying app to pose as a woman professor, rapes 7 women in Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal: An illiterate man adeptly used technology to rape at least seven women in Madhya Pradesh, media reported.

Making use of a voice-morphing app, Brajesh Kushwaha, who earlier worked at a mill, would pose as a female college teacher, and deceive tribal college students from Madhya Pradesh's Sidhi district by promising assistance in securing scholarships, reported NDTV.

Using a feminine voice, Kushwaha would tell the students to meet in isolated locations, where a man would be sent to escort them to her residence on a motorcycle.

Police said he trapped in this way at least seven tribal women and raped them

According to the report, Inspector General of Police Mahendra Sikarwar said, "A woman approached us and said a man had raped her after luring her to a deserted area in the name of helping her get a scholarship. After our investigation, we identified Brajesh Kushwaha, who has been arrested. He told us that he used to change his voice to a woman's using a cellphone app. Three of his accomplices have also been arrested."

"The clue that helped us crack the case was the fact that the students' assaulter wore gloves when he met all of them," Sikarwar added.

A police official said that despite being illiterate, Kushwaha managed to learn how to use the app and steal numbers from phones to identify potential targets, according to the report.

In the wake of the incident, the cyber cell issued an advisory, urging people to exercise caution about the misuse of voice-changing apps.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has directed a nine-member special investigation team to investigate the case thoroughly and find if Kushwaha targeted more women. The team will be led by a woman deputy superintendent of police.
