In an Instagram post, Prateek claimed he is suffering from a “bad mental health condition,” to which Aparna—who is active in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)—was allegedly indifferent. He wrote:

“I am going to divorce this selfish woman as soon as possible. She ruined my family ties. All she wants is to become famous and influential. Right now, I am in very bad mental health condition and she doesn't bother. She only bothers about herself. I have never seen such a bad soul, and I was unfortunate to get married to her.”

Prateek is the younger son of Mulayam Singh Yadav from his second wife Sadhana Gupta, and the step-brother of Akhilesh Yadav, former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and current Samajwadi Party supremo.

Prateek and Aparna (née Aparna Bisht) met during their school days, dated for several years, and got engaged around 2010.

They were married in December 2011 in a high-profile ceremony at Saifai, Etawah district, attended by prominent political and social figures.

The couple has two daughters, and their marriage was long regarded as stable and well-respected in social and political circles.
