Mumbai Police arrest absconding owner of collapsed illegal billboard Bhavesh Bhinde from Rajasthan

Mumbai Police have arrested the owner of the advertisement agency that was responsible for installing the billboard in Ghatkopar area of the west Indian city which collapsed on May 13 and left 16 people killed.


As many as 74 people were hurt after the 120-foot hoarding collapsed in Mumbai amid heavy rains.

After a massive manhunt, police arrested Ego Media Pvt Ltd owner Bhavesh Bhinde on Thursday (May 16, 2024) from Rajasthan's Udaipur city.

He is expected to be presented in a Mumbai court later in the day.

After he escaped from the city following the mishap, more than 10 police teams from Mumbai and Gujarat were formed to trace Bhavesh Bhinde.

Following the collapse of the billboard, a video of the moment went viral on the social media.

Footage showed the tragic moment the giant hoarding came crashing on the ground.

In a clear violation of rules, the crashed billboard measured 120x120sqft and weighed 250 tons.

As per the local civic body, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), a hoarding can have a maximum size of 40x40sqft.

The company had applied to the Limca Book of Records to declare it as the largest commercial hoarding in India, reported Hindustan Times.

The Mumbai Police had registered a case under sections 304, 338, 337, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code against Bhavesh Bhide and others at Pantnagar police station.
