Odisha: Man sentenced to 3 years in jail for molesting a minor girl
Balasore/UNI: A special POCSO judge on Saturday convicted a 50 year-old-man in the case of sexual assault of a minor girl and sentenced him to 3 years rigorous imprisonment amd a fine of Rs 1,000.
The court ruled that in default of paying fine, the convict has to undergo one more year jail term, Special Public Prosecutor Pranab Panda said.
Panda said the convict Bidya Singh of Dingabali village under Remuna police station of Balasore district was arrested in Feb 2021 after the mother of the victim alleged that her daughter was molested by the accused.
The accused was tried under several sections of IPC and 8 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The court after examining 13 witnesses and 10 exhibits awarded the punishment, said Special Public Prosecutor.
