Modi posted a thread on X warning about soaring temperatures and urged people to stay hydrated, carry water while stepping out, and offer water to others as an act of kindness during the extreme weather.

PM’s Advice During Heatwave

The Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of recognising symptoms of heat exhaustion such as dizziness and nausea, and advised people to immediately help those affected, especially children, the elderly and outdoor workers.

He further urged citizens to regularly check on elderly family members during the intense heat conditions.

Modi also extended the message to compassion towards wildlife, recommending that people keep small bowls of water on balconies or terraces to help thirsty birds and animals.

His post read: “Different parts of India are witnessing soaring temperatures and the challenges that come with it. This heat is harsh on all of us and I urge you all to take as many precautions as possible.”

“Please stay hydrated, keep water with you when stepping out. Offer a glass of water to others. In weather like this, such kindness goes a long way.”

India Battles Severe Heatwave

India is currently witnessing an intense heatwave, with several parts of north, central and eastern India recording temperatures above 45°C over the past few days.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red, orange and yellow alerts across multiple states including Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Telangana and parts of Maharashtra.

Several regions have reported temperatures between 46°C and 48°C, with Banda in Uttar Pradesh touching 48.2°C earlier this week. Delhi has also witnessed one of its warmest nights in more than a decade, intensifying discomfort due to high nighttime temperatures.

The IMD has warned that “heatwave to severe heatwave” conditions are likely to continue across northwest and central India over the next few days, although some relief may arrive later this week due to western disturbances and isolated thunderstorms.

The extreme temperatures have disrupted normal life in several states, leading to increased power demand, sporadic electricity cuts, school closures in some areas, and rising health concerns including dehydration and heatstroke.
