A video showing a cordial interaction between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi has gone viral, drawing attention for its rarity in India’s deeply polarised political climate.
The interaction took place at the Parliament complex on Saturday, where top leaders assembled to pay tribute to social reformer Mahatma Jyotirao Phule on his 200th birth anniversary.
The video shows the Prime Minister greeting Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Ministers JP Nadda and Arjun Ram Meghwal, before stopping to exchange a few words with Gandhi.

PM enquires about Sonia Gandhi’s health
According to sources, Modi asked Gandhi about the health of his mother and former Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who was recently hospitalised.
Gandhi reportedly informed him that her condition is improving, to which the Prime Minister expressed relief and conveyed his best wishes.
Sonia Gandhi had been admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital on March 24 with fever and a systemic infection. She was discharged on March 31 after recovery.
PM pays tribute to Phule
Earlier in the day, Modi described Mahatma Jyotirao Phule as a “guiding light,” highlighting his emphasis on education, social reform, and welfare.
“Paid homage to Mahatma Phule in the Parliament complex. May his ideals continue to give strength and hope to countless people,” the Prime Minister said in a post on X.
