Chandigarh/IBNS: The Ministry of Home Affairs has extended ‘Z’ category security to Raghav Chadha following the withdrawal of his previous protection by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab, according to sources.
The development comes days after the AAP removed Chadha from the post of deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha.
Punjab police personnel recalled
Sources indicated that Punjab Police personnel assigned to Chadha’s security have been directed to report back to headquarters.
The withdrawal of the Z+ category cover marks a significant shift in his security arrangement.
Officials stated that the Centre will now provide ‘Z’ category security to Chadha in Delhi and Punjab, while a ‘Y’ category cover will be in place for the rest of the country.
Political rift within AAP deepens
The changes in security come amid an ongoing rift between Chadha and the party leadership.
The AAP had earlier cited concerns over his parliamentary approach while announcing his removal from the leadership position on April 2.
Chadha responded by rejecting the allegations, stating that his role in Parliament focused on raising public issues rather than engaging in disruptions.
Second senior leader to part ways
Chadha is the second Rajya Sabha MP from AAP, after Swati Maliwal, to experience differences with the party leadership in recent months.
Once regarded as a close associate of Arvind Kejriwal, Chadha played a prominent role in the party’s organisational and political activities, particularly in Punjab and Delhi.
Continued public engagement
In recent months, Chadha has remained active in raising issues related to public welfare.
In a recent statement, he said he had “been silenced, not defeated”, indicating his continued engagement in political discourse.
