Rejected during Valentine’s week, student shoots classmate in Punjab college; turns gun on himself
Tarn Taran (Punjab)/IBNS: In a shocking incident, a first-year law student allegedly shot his female classmate before turning the gun on himself at a law college in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district on Monday morning, media reports said.
The entire incident was captured on CCTV footage, which has been accessed by IBNS.
According to the footage, Prince Raj, a resident of Mallian village in Jalandhar district, entered the classroom around 9:15 am and walked past his classmate Sandeep Kaur, a resident of Naushehra Pannuan.
When Raj did not respond to a remark made by Sandeep, she walked away. Raj soon followed her. The footage later shows Raj, Sandeep and another female student walking towards their seats.
Sandeep and her classmate sat on the last bench, while Raj took a seat in front of them. Moments later, Raj stood up, took out a firearm from his bag and shot Sandeep, leaving the third student—whose identity has not been disclosed—in shock.
Within seconds, Raj moved a few steps forward and shot himself.
The third student is seen checking on Sandeep before leaving the classroom along with other batchmates.
Sandeep died on the spot, while Raj was rushed to a hospital in critical condition.
The motive behind the crime is yet to be officially established.
However, Sandeep’s mother alleged that Raj had been harassing her daughter for several months and had proposed to her on February 8, during Valentine’s week, which she had rejected, The Times of India reported.
Police said the accused allegedly brought the firearm to the college following the rejection, the daily reported. An investigation is currently underway.
