RG Kar: 2 doctors close to Sandip Ghosh under CBI scanner amid junior medics' hunger strike, says report
Kolkata/IBNS: Two doctors who were close to arrested former RG Kar Medical College and Hospital principal Sandip Ghosh are under the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) scanner in connection with the rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee medic at the state-run hospital, media reports said.
As per a report by India Today, Sujata Ghosh and Debasish Som are in the CBI radar.
"If their direct involvement in the scam gets revealed in our ongoing probe, both the doctors can even be arrested soon," India Today reported quoting sources.
Earlier, Som's house was raided by the CBI. He was also summoned at the CBI office in Kolkata.
Though Kolkata Police was quick to arrest civic volunteer Sanjoy Roy in connection with the incident, West Bengal junior doctors suspect there are more than one behind the incident.
The case is currently being probed by the CBI under the monitoring of the Supreme Court.
The CBI has arrested ex-RG Kar principal Sandip Ghosh, who was already in custody for alleged financial irregularities in the hospital, and a cop in connection with the case.
Prior to CBI's investigation, the state administration came under the scanner over its alleged cover-up, delay in filing FIRs, demolition work near the crime scene, posting of Ghosh to the same post at another college after his resignation from RG Kar.
In its first chargesheet, the CBI has named Sanjoy Roy as the main accused.
The crime has triggered widespread outrage across the country. Junior doctors of West Bengal continued ceasework for over 40 days in two phases demanding justice for the victim and safety for the medics.
Several junior doctors are on hunger strike for 14 days demanding justice for RG Kar case, security at hospitals, elimination of 'threat culture' and removal of a few officials.
