Shocking Video: Doctor caught assaulting patient inside Himachal govt-run hospital, suspended
The Himachal Pradesh government has suspended a 31-year-old doctor after he was allegedly caught on camera assaulting a patient inside the Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla. The incident came to light after a video of the altercation went viral on social media.
Hospital authorities have ordered a formal inquiry into the matter.
“The services of the accused doctor, Raghav Narula, have been suspended,” IGMC Medical Superintendent Rahul Rao told Hindustan Times.
He added, “Following government instructions, the doctor has been suspended and his headquarters have been fixed at the Directorate of Medical Education, where he has been directed to report. A high-power committee has also been constituted to investigate the incident. The inquiry will be conducted in a fair and transparent manner, and no one will be protected.”
In the viral video, the doctor can allegedly be seen assaulting a patient who was lying on a hospital bed.
According to reports, the confrontation began after the patient—who had recently undergone a medical procedure and was advised to rest—objected to the doctor’s manner of speaking and demanded respectful treatment.
The situation quickly escalated, with the doctor allegedly striking the patient, leaving him with visible injuries, including a bloodied nose.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shimla, Sanjeev Gandhi, confirmed that legal action has been initiated.
“After receiving the complaint, an FIR has been registered and action is being taken as per law. The circumstances under which the alleged assault took place are being investigated, and statements of the accused doctor will be recorded,” he was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
