Singer Badshah receives death threat from Lawrence Bishnoi gang after row over his new song ‘Tateeree’
Singer-rapper Badshah has received a death threat from members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, days after he faced backlash over his new song ‘Tateeree’ for allegedly featuring objectionable lyrics targeting women and minors, media reports said.
In a purported Facebook post, gang members threatened to “shoot him in his forehead”, stating:
“Singer Badshah, you have tried to ruin the culture of Haryana. We showed you the trailer in your club in 2024; next time we will shoot you directly in the forehead.”
The post was signed by Randeep Malik and Anil Pandit, who claimed responsibility for a recent firing incident outside a Western Union office in Panipat, allegedly targeting people involved in Hawala operations.
The post warned others engaged in such operations of “dire consequences” if they did not stop.
This is not the first time Badshah has been targeted. In 2024, an explosion occurred outside Badshah’s Seville Bar and Lounge in Chandigarh, for which Canada-based terrorist Goldy Brar, linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, had claimed responsibility.
The group’s post also listed several individuals and entities believed to be associated with the gang. NDTV could not independently verify the Facebook post.
‘Tateeree’ Controversy
The latest Haryanvi track ‘Tateeree’ went viral after being released on Badshah’s official YouTube channel.
A complaint was filed against him by a resident of Panchkula, alleging that the song contains objectionable lyrics and visuals.
Last week, Badshah issued an apology, stressing that the track was never intended to hurt women or children.
“My new song has been released, and I see that the lyrics and visuals have caused hurt, especially among people from Haryana. I want to say I am a proud Haryanvi, and never intended to disrespect anyone,” he said.
He added that as a hip-hop artist, his lyrics often depict competition in the music industry and are not targeted at women or minors.
He requested forgiveness from the community, calling himself “Haryana’s son”.
