Terror alert in Delhi: LeT may target Chandni Chowk with IED, say reports
New Delhi/IBNS: Delhi has been placed on alert after intelligence inputs warned of a possible terror threat near the Red Fort, media reports said.
According to inputs, terrorists linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) may target key religious sites, including temples in the Chandni Chowk area and locations around the Red Fort, The Times of India reported quoting ANI.
The terror group is suspected to be planning an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack, with a temple in Chandni Chowk believed to be a potential target.
Sources said the planned attack could be an attempt to avenge the February 6 blast at a mosque in Islamabad.
The alert comes months after a powerful car explosion near the Red Fort in New Delhi on November 10, 2025, killed at least 15 people and injured more than 20 others, making it one of the deadliest attacks in the national capital in recent years.
The blast took place around 6:50 pm near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station, when a white Hyundai i20 laden with explosives detonated in slow-moving traffic in the crowded Chandni Chowk area. The explosion destroyed the vehicle and set several nearby cars and auto-rickshaws on fire, triggering widespread panic.
Investigators later confirmed the vehicle was packed with improvised explosive materials, including ammonium nitrate-based explosives. Authorities classified the incident as a terror attack and launched a massive investigation involving the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Delhi Police and other security agencies.
The probe uncovered links to a wider terror module involving radicalised individuals, including a Pulwama-based doctor suspected to be among the key perpetrators. Several arrests were made, and security was intensified across Delhi and other major cities.
A UN monitoring report later linked the Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed to the blast, heightening concerns over continued terror threats targeting India’s capital.
