Valentine’s Day horror: Noida couple found shot dead, family alleges murder
A young couple was found dead inside a car in Noida on Valentine’s Day, in what police initially believe to be a suicide, though the man’s family has raised doubts over the circumstances, media reports said.
The victims, identified as Rekha (26), a resident of Sector 58, Noida, and Sumit (32), from Trilokpuri, Delhi, were discovered inside a locked vehicle under Sector 39 police jurisdiction, with gunshot wounds. A pistol and cartridges were recovered from the car.
Police said both had been reported missing the day before, and missing person reports had been filed.
The couple had reportedly been in a relationship for nearly 15 years, with both families aware of it. Residents in the area alerted authorities after hearing gunshots.
Initial findings suggest that Sumit shot Rekha before turning the gun on himself. A message allegedly sent by Sumit on WhatsApp referenced the 15-year relationship and his frustration over Rekha planning to marry someone else.
The message reportedly read: "I, Sumit, am going to commit suicide. Rekha is responsible for this because she was in a relationship with me for 15 years and promised me she would marry me, and now she is going to marry someone else. That is why I am committing suicide because Rekha has betrayed me."
However, Sumit’s family has questioned the suicide theory, alleging the couple may have been murdered.
They claimed Rekha’s family had taunted the pair over caste, and Sumit’s family had received threatening calls, including from international numbers.
The car was discovered only a few hundred meters from Rekha’s village in Salarpur, which the family described as suspicious.
Police have stated that all angles, including the family’s allegations, are being investigated, and forensic teams have collected evidence from the scene. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem.
