‘Would have given more money than IMF if…’: Rajnath Singh jabs Pakistan over terrorism during Jammu Kashmir poll rally

Gurez (Jammu and Kashmir): The assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir are not just routine, but a powerful demonstration of India's democratic strength, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Sunday, media reports said.

Addressing a rally in Gurez, Bandipore, Singh highlighted that India's commitment to democracy in the region marks a significant shift. "The election in Jammu and Kashmir is a testament to India's democracy and its resilience. We aim for full voter participation," Singh was quoted as saying by ANI.

Under the Prime Minister's Development Package (PMDP), launched in 2015 by PM Modi, has been allocated for J&K's development.

Comparing it to Pakistan's financial struggles, Singh remarked, "The PM package for J&K has now grown to an amount greater than what Pakistan is requesting from the IMF. Had we had better relations, India would have provided Pakistan more funds than what they have sought from the IMF."

Targeting Pakistan's involvement in terrorism, the Defence Minister warned, "Whenever terrorist activities in Kashmir are probed, Pakistan’s involvement is clear. This is a new India. We will fight terrorism not just within our borders, but if necessary, we will act across the borders."

Singh also took aimjo at the opposition, particularly the National Conference (NC) and Congress, for promising to restore Article 370.

"Only the Central Government has the authority to make such decisions. Today, Kashmir is witnessing unprecedented tourism, and the youth are embracing education and technology instead of violence. Kashmir is transforming from a terrorist hotspot to a tourism hotspot."

Singh concluded by criticizing the NC, Congress, and PDP, accusing them of neglecting the people and only securing their own political power: "For decades, these parties did nothing but focus on their families. Now, change is visible in J&K, and the youth are leading that change."
