2nd edition of Eikhoigi Imphal International Film Festival, 2025 begins at Imphal

The 2nd edition of the Eikhoigi Imphal International Film Festival, 2025 kicks off on Thursday at City Convention Centre in Imphal. Organized by the Manipur State Film Development Society and the Manipur State Film & Television Institute, the festival was inaugurated by state Information and Public Relations minister Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh. The 2nd Eikhoigi Imphal International Film Festival is all set to bring the magic of the silver screen to Manipur from February 6 to 9, 2025.
The festival which celebrates the power of cinema in shaping culture and society will showcase 54 national and international fiction, feature and documentary films at City Convention, Tantha Polis, Kumecs and Chandrakriti Auditorium for three days. The organizer will conduct panel discussion on films, interaction with national and international film makers fostering cinematic appreciation and cultural exchange.
Inaugurating the festival, the state IPR minister Ranjan highlighting the ability to bring positive change. said that many film festivals and related events receive sponsorship from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and suggested that such initiatives should not fall under the purview of the Arts and Culture Department.
Taking the opportunity to honor the state’s legendary film maker Aribam Syam Sharma, who is also known as the Doyen of Manipuri Cinema, the Minister applauding Syam’s remarkable contributions to the world of cinema said that, language is never a barrier in film, as the performances of actors and the depth of storytelling can transcend linguistic differences, an aspect that makes cinema truly universal.
As part of the festival’s opening ceremony, a special bulletin titled “The Eikhoigi Daily” was released. The said bulletin will be released daily till the end of the festival. The event also awards were also presented to distinguished individuals.
