Twenty persons involved in theft of passenger belongings apprehended by RPF of NFR

Guwahati: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is regularly conducting drives to control the menace of touts. In recently conducted checks and drives over the zone from 16th to 30th June, 2024; RPF apprehended 3 touts and recovered railway tickets worth above Rs. 95 thousand from them. During this period seventeen persons involved in theft of passenger belongings was also apprehended.
During the period 3 touts were apprehended by RPF of NFR. Wherever required, raids were conducted in coordination with Government Railway Police (GRP) and personnel of local police stations. 34 tickets worth Rs. 95,219.55 (approximately) were recovered during drives and raids. Also, 17 persons were apprehended being involved in theft of passenger belongings. All the apprehended persons were prosecuted under the relevant section of the Railways Act.
Sabyasachi De, Chief Public Relations Officer of NFR through a press statement said that in an incident on 27th June, 2024, RPF team of Rangiya conducted a raid and search operation at ‘N.H. Enterprise’ located at Kharupetia Town, Assam. During the raid the team recovered 18 E-Tickets, worth around Rs. 59,192.10 and apprehended one tout in this connection. A case was registered under section 143 of the Railways Act at Rangapara North for further course of action.
On 16th June, 2024, RPF team of Katihar jointly with CPDS team of Katihar conducted a checking at Katihar railway station in train no 15909 and apprehended three person and recovered three stolen mobile phone worth Rs 45,000/- (approx) from his possession. Later, the apprehended persons along with the recovered mobiles were handed over to the respective In-charge of GRP for further legal actions.
Apart from keeping a close vigil of unauthorized & illegal procurement of railway tickets, RPF of N.F. Railway always ready to provide services and assistance to the rail users besides their task of ensuring security to the passengers. N.F. Railway authority would like to request all passengers to undertake their journey with proper tickets only to avoid problems during train travel. Railway passengers can dial 139 (Toll-free) if they come across any problem during their train journey.
