Mahatma Gandhi was the 'Father of the Nation' for Pakistan, says singer Abhijit Bhattacharya
Bollywood singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya is once again making headlines after he called Mahatma Gandhi the 'Father of Pakistan'.
In his controversial remark during a YouTube podcast, Bhattacharya was quoted as saying by the media: “Mahatma Gandhi was the father of the nation for Pakistan. He was not the same for India. India already existed."
"Later on, Pakistan was only carved out of India," the singer said.
He said Gandhi was responsible for the creation of Pakistan.
Bhattacharya said: "It is by mistake that Gandhi is called the 'Father of India'."
He even compared music composer RD Burman with Mahatma Gandhi and said: "RD Burman was much bigger than Mahatma Ganhdhi. I can call him the Father of India in the world of music."
Abhijeet Bhattacharya gained popularity in the 90s by singing some of the hit Bollywood songs of the period.
He became one of the most prominent singers of the 90s and early 2000 era.
He lent his voice for popular Bollywood actors including Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan.
