Pre-teaser of Prosenjit Chatterjee, Srabanti Chatterjee starrer Devi Chowdhurani: Bandit Queen of Bengal unveiled
Kolkata/IBNS: The pre-teaser of Tollywood superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee and actress Srabanti Chatterjee starrer upcoming Bengali film Devi Chowdhurani: Bandit Queen of Bengal was unveiled by the makers on Wednesday.
The pre-teaser has been unveiled coinciding Christmas. The film will be released on May 1, 2025.
The film is an adaptation of writing legend Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay's novel of the same name.
Srabanti, a senior actress with a meaty body of work, plays the titular role in the film, which is directed by Subhrajit Mitra.
Prosenjit plays the pivotal role of Bhavani Pathak in the magnum opus.
Published in 1884, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay's Devi Chowdhurani novel tells a story of a powerful woman who goes out to fight out British rule at a time women used to remain behind the curtains.
Devi Chowdhurani was one of the novels written by Chattopadhyay giving a call to resurgent India against British rule.
The film, which features Sabyasachi Chakrabarty, Arjun Chakrabarty, Darshana Banik, Bibriti Chatterjee in important roles, was shot in Kolkata, Purulia, Jharkhand and Bolpur.
Prior to Mitra's film, which is produced by Adited Motion Pictures and Lok Arts Collective, Chattopadhyay's Devi Chowdhurani was cinematically adapted in 1974.
Bengali film legend Suchitra Sen played the titular role in the adaptation, which was directed by Dinen Gupta.
