Australia beat India by six wickets to clinch Border-Gavaskar Trophy by 3-1 margin

Jan 5, 2025 ..

India's hope to reach WTC final was dashed after Australia beat the visitors by six wickets in the final match to clinch the Border Gavaskar series by 3-1 margin on Sunday.

It is the first time India will not play in the final of WTC.

India lost the WTC final both times since its inception.

The absence of Jasprit Bumrah due to back spasms impacts India's chance of beating the home side.

India needed to win the match to level the series 2-2 and retain the Border Gavaskar Trophy which India lost for the first time in a decade.

The series victory also ensured Australia reached the WTC final for the second consecutive time.

Pat Cummins and his men are the current WTC champions.

Australia would face South Africa in the final of the ICC event.

Australia beat India in 2023 WTC final to clinch the title.

Indian batting lineup collapsed in the final Test match of the series with Bumrah's team being bowled out for just 185 in the first innings and 157 in the second, giving no chance to the visitors to recover in the tough clash.

Usman Khawaja (41) and Sam Konstas (22) put up a strong show to reach the winning target of 162 runs for the loss of four wickets.

Indian bowlers picked up four wickets but failed Australia to chase down the low-set target.
