India register 21-run win over Oman defending 188/8 in Asia Cup
Abu Dhabi/IBNS: India defeated Oman by 21 runs after putting 188/8 on board in the Group A match of Asia Cup 2025 at Sheikh Zayed Stadium here on Friday.

Batting first, India were powered by Sanju Samson, who top-scored with a steady 56 off 45 balls.
He was well supported by Abhishek Sharma’s fiery 38 from just 15 balls and Tilak Varma’s quick 29 off 18.
Cameos from Axar Patel (26 off 13) and Harshit Rana (13* off 8) lifted the total despite Oman’s bowlers picking up timely wickets, with Shah Faisal (2/23) and Aamir Kaleem (2/31) impressing.
Oman’s chase was led by a superb knock from skipper Aamir Kaleem, who struck 64 off 46 balls, and Hammad Mirza, who hit a fluent 51 from 33. Together, they gave Oman hope after Jatinder Singh’s 32.
However, India’s bowlers kept things under control in the death overs. Hardik Pandya (1/26) and Kuldeep Yadav (1/23) bowled smartly, while Arshdeep Singh claimed his 100th T20I wicket, becoming the first Indian male cricketer to achieve the milestone.
Player of the Match Sanju Samson says, "It was tough out there—very hot and humid. I’ve been focusing on my fitness over the past few weeks. We’ve got a new trainer onboard and even did the Bronco test recently, so that’s helped me get in better shape.
"It felt good to get some time in the middle today. Credit to Oman—they bowled really well, especially in the powerplay, getting the ball to swing early on. I always try to play to my strengths and stay positive. Any time you contribute with the bat for your country, it’s a big positive to take forward."
