Nagaland: Tenloi Phom Clinches Silver Medal in Taekwondo at 66th National School Games
New Delhi/IBNS: In an impressive display of skill and determination, 16-year-old Tenloi Phom from Nagaland secured the silver medal in the 48kg category of Taekwondo at the 66th National School Games held in Delhi.

The talented athlete showcased his prowess throughout the tournament, defeating opponents from Karnataka and Chhattisgarh in the earlier rounds, reported EastMojo.
Phom's remarkable journey began with a resounding victory over his opponent from Karnataka in the first match. Undeterred by the challenges, he went on to defeat his opponent from Chhattisgarh in the second match.
In the semifinals, Phom exhibited exceptional skills to emerge victorious against his opponent from Assam. However, in the final match, he faced a tough challenge from Haryana and had to settle for the silver medal.
Led by coach Visabiu Peseyie and team manager Deepak Prasad, a total of eight players represented Nagaland in the championship. The Nagaland Taekwondo team, under the department of Youth Resources and Sports, showcased immense talent and dedication.
Tenloi Phom, a student at TM Government Higher Secondary School in Kohima, has been admitted to the prestigious Sports Academy at IG Stadium in Kohima. His outstanding performance at the National School Games is a testament to his hard work and commitment to the sport.
In the same tournament, other participants from Nagaland also displayed commendable performances. Thongti, competing in the under 45 kg category, secured a victory against Jharkhand in the first match but faced defeat against Gujarat in the second match.
Nnumhei, participating in the under 63 kg category, won the first match against Andhra Pradesh but, unfortunately, lost to Gujarat in the subsequent round.
The 66th National School Games, organized by the School Games Federation of India (SGFI), marks the resumption of the prestigious event after a three-year hiatus. T
his year, the championship is being held across two different states, Bhopal and Delhi, from June 6 to June 12. The tournament aims to provide a platform for young athletes from across the country to showcase their skills and compete at a national level.
