93 lakh cash recovered from a gang rape accused house related with betting in IPL
With arrest of two miscreants involved in the gang rape of a college girl and subsequent recovery of Rs.93 lakh cash from a house of the prime accuse, the state police on Friday said that recovery of huge amount of cash is related with betting in Indian Premiere League (IPL) and other local cricket matches.
In a statement issued by the police headquarters on Friday said that consequent upon recovery of Rs. 93 lakh from the house of one Prasenjit Pail under Amtali police station, the matter was enquired and prima-facie it is revealed that the money recovered is related with betting in IPL and other local cricket matches.
Police added that a case is being registered under relevant sections of law against Prasenjit Paul and his associates. The state police has also formed a special team along with a Cyber Security unit for detailed investigation into the matter.
However, till Friday gang rape accused Prasenjit Paul still absconding and arrested two other prime accused Goutam Sharma and Sudip Chetri are in police custody.
SP(West) Kiran Kumar K Said that on the May 10th , 2023 an allegation of gang rape of college girl was registered at Amtali police station under West Tripura district and to arrest remaining accused persons, several police team are being conducting search operations in different parts of the state to arrest them.
He said that a massive manhunt has been launched by 3 to 4 police teams, while during the raid at Maheshkhala area, the uncle of the gang rape accused Laxman Paul was arrested, who was directly involved with money laundering and gambling network, who is also now in police custody for interrogation. The SP hoped that soon all the accused involved in gang rape will be arrested.
He added that additional special teams have been formed and raids are going on in various parts of the state to nab the involved accused persons and to gather more evidence by using scientific aids.
