A human trafficker, wanted by NIA, arrested in Tripura

Tripura police on Sunday arrested a human trafficker, wanted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and he would be taken to Guwahati on Monday.

Speaking to media persons at Bishalgarh of Sepahijala district, local police station officer- in-charge (OC) Rana Chatterjee said that Hannan Miah (41) of Matinagar in Sepahijala district was accused in a human trafficking case of the NIA from last year and he was detained from Motinagar.

Hannan was an ‘infamous human trafficker’ and he was wanted in connection with a human trafficking case pursued by the NIA and the case has been pending in the national probe agency court in Guwahati, said Chatterjee.

He said that Hannan was arrested as per requisition of the NIA and he was already handed over to a team of central probe agency.

The agency, after taking a transit remand from a local court, would take him to Guwahati on Monday for questioning.

Based on digital surveillance and tracking, the NIA and Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended 29 human traffickers and illicit peddlers involved in international crime racket in November and December last year from different states including Tripura, Assam and West Bengal.

The arrests were part of the human trafficking case lodged by the NIA in its Guwahati court in October last year.
