A widow mother sold her child due to poverty, Jitendra Chaudhury urges CS to investigate
A newborn girl child allegedly sold by her mother with an amount of Rs. 5000 at Taraban Colony North Gandacherra ADC village of Dhalai district of Tripura and the CPI (M) state secretary Jitendra Chaudhury drew the attention of the state administration and the Chief Secretary assured to investigate the matter.
Chaudhury said that a 37-year-old mother had to sell her new-born-baby due to extreme poverty.
It is learned that Marmari Tripura, mother of five children and a resident of Taravan Colony in Uttar Gandacherra ADC village wanted to abort her sixth child but the doctor denied it as the child is already in mature stage. In such a situation the lady had no option but to sell her new-born at a cost of Rs 5,000. She admitted it to the locals and said she had no option as she won’t be able to feed the child.
It is learned that her husband Purnajoy Tripura committed suicide few months back leaving Marmari in a hapless condition. She was arranging food for four children by collecting and selling firewood. Another son is now staying at Chennai for work. Chowdhury alleged that the lady also mortgaged her ration card.
Chaudhury drew the attention of the Chief Secretary J K Sinha about the incident through WhatsApp who immediately replied and assured him to investigate the matter.
