A woman kingpin of human trafficking arrested from Indo-Bangla border

The Government Railway Police (GRP) posted Agartala railway station achieved a significant success in decreasing the menaces of human trafficking and on Tuesday has arrested a kingpin  for trafficking of Bangladesh nationals and Rohingyas through the frontiers of Tripura.

Despite NIA raids in multiple locations across Tripura over a human trafficking network and subsequent arrest of 21 human traffickers in the first part of November, 2023, the human trafficking through different border areas of Tripura still continues.

Police sources said that with the arrest of the kingpin and agent for trafficking will definitely put a curb on continuous trafficking, though alert security forces achieving success by foiling trafficking bids by international agents.

Giving details, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of GRP station, Agartala railway station, Tapas Das said that March 23rd last, the GRP of Agartala station along with Railway Protection Force (RPF) had arrested six Bangladeshi , who were after their entry into Indian territory had tried to board the Kanchenjunga express to reach Kolkata.

After their arrest, police produced them before a local court with police remand appeals and after getting the police remand and during the interrogation process of arrested six Bangladeshi , the investigation team got some vital information over the Indian agents involved with human trafficking.

Based on the interrogation information, police identified a kingpin for human trafficking as Parul Aktar of bordering Motinagar village (near Indo-Bangla border fencing)  under Amtali police station of West Tripura district, said Das.

He said that sensing police raid, Parul Aktar escaped from her house towards Bangladesh, but police’s intelligence sources said that on Monday night she again arrived at her house.

Based on the information, a joint team of GRP, police personnel from Amtali police station and BSF from Srimantapur BOP laid a trap near her house in the wee hours of Tuesday and with the first light of sunrise, the joint team raided Parul Aktar’s house and managed to arrest her, said Tapas Das.

He also said that arrested human trafficking agent will be produced before court with police remand appeals for interrogation and get details of their trafficking network.

Das added that the arrest of Parul Aktar is a big arrest for security forces as she was the main agent in the bordering Motinagar area for trafficking of Bangladesh nationals and Rohingyas in different parts of India.
