ADC holiday on Monday to celebrate historic tripartite agreement
After signing an agreement full of uncertainty, the Tipra-Motha supremo returned home and sought another six to eight months to solve all problems of the tribals in the state.
He told followers to celebrate in a restrained manner but TTAADC controlled by the party has declared Monday a holiday to celebrate the accord.
Tipra-Motha supremo and former royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, who along with his two party leaders on Saturday signed a tripartite agreement with the Centre and the Tripura government in the national capital, said that within the next six to eight months, the pending problems and issues facing the tribals of the state will be resolved.
Debbarma, who has returned to Tripura from Delhi on Sunday and rushed to Hatoi Katar (Baramura) on National Highway-8, the venue of hunger strike and addressing a large gathering of Motha supporters and leaders, Pradyot ended his fast and said ‘I am yet to eat anything before reaching Hatoi Katar and surviving on glucose and water.’
Addressing the gathering Pradyot said “Yes, we have signed a historical accord and we can celebrate, but not too much! We will have to work even more hard, and be disciplined as leaders and as a community.” “We have to implement our land rights, funding pattern, language (script) issue, political representation and also restore our historical and cultural pride. What we are asking is as per the Constitution. We want the government to fulfil the tribals' constitutional and land rights-related issues," said Pradyot and added that after formation of committees, the constitutional rights of indigenous people will be ensured within the next eight months.
Debbarma also appreciated Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his reference to the history of Tripura during his address after the signing of the agreement. He also expressed his gratitude towards the leaders of BJP, IPFT, Congress and Gana Mukti Parishad (GMP) for their support to ensure the rights of indigenous people.
He said that the victory for Tripura, not for a party or a community and without development of ADC, the ultimate development of Tripura is not possible. He also promised the gathering that like other states of the Northeast region, peace and development has also prevails in Tripura and indigenous people will get their rights for education, jobs and other constitutional rights.
Pradyot in a social media post after the signing of agreement and after meeting with Union Home Minister said “After the signing of the accord I met the Hon Home minister at his chamber, he has clearly and categorically assured me that He will ensure that taking a view of the history of our state and the future road map he will implement all the promises related to funding, constitutional amendments, land powers, language and cultural issues . Now my tiprasa leaders it's ok to celebrate for a few weeks then it's only if we are sincere and hard working that we can bring real change into the lives of our people. We must not make the same mistakes committed in the past. This should be the goal of our #Thansa unity. Celebrate but don't forget the road ahead is to keep our promises.”
According to the tripartite agreement, a joint working group or committee would be formed to work out and implement the mutually-agreed points in a time-bound manner to ensure an honourable solution.
“…Government of India, government of Tripura and TIPRA agreed to amicably resolve all issues of the indigenous people of Tripura relating to history, land rights, political rights, economic development, identity, culture, language etc.,” the agreement said.
Besides Debbarma, opposition leader and senior Tipra-Motha leader Animesh Debbarma, Motha President Bijoy Kumar Hrangkhawl, Tripura Chief Secretary J K Sinha, and Home Ministry’s Additional Secretary (NE) Piyush Goyal signed the tripartite agreement.
