After 15 years of trial, two gets life sentenced for killing a businessman

After 15-years of long trail, the Additional District and Session court of Khowai district on Tuesday sentenced life imprisonment to two murder accused for killing a businessman at Duski area of Teliamura on October 3rd, 2011.

Official sources said that on Tuesday the Additional District and Session judge of Khowai district has convicted two persons, Chiranjit Debbarma (42) and Shibaji Debbarma (33) of Para Kalak area of Biswachandra Para village under Teliamura police station and sentenced both of them life imprisonment along with fine of Rs. 10,000 each and in default of payment, the convicts would suffer further simple imprisonment of six more months under 302, 34 of IPC.

A specific case has been registered at Teliamura police station on October 3rd, 2011 and as per the complaint one Ranjan Debbarma went to Duski market for business but did not return home. His family searched for him and in the next morning , they found him critically injured near DS Para camp area in a jungle. Before losing his consciousness, the injured man reportedly named three persons who had assaulted him by tying him with a tree. Later, he was taken to GB Hospital in critical condition, where he succumbed due to his critical injuries.

Police sources said that after detailed investigation into the incident, the then police Sub-Inspector Asish Sarkar of Teliamura police station, now posted as OC (Inspector) of Kalyanpur police station had submitted the charge-sheet against accused persons on May 31st, 2012 and on Tuesday (March 10, 2026), the trial court found both accused persons as guilty and sentenced them to life imprisonment.
