After Crime Branch PS, Special Task Force to deal with criminal syndicates, extortion gangs
After inauguration of Tripura police Crime Branch (TPCB) police station on Monday last, the state police has formed a Special Task Force (STF) having pan-Tripura jurisdiction in the Crime Branch headed by the SP(Economic Offences).
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Saturday through his social media said that “A Special Task Force (STF) having pan-Tripura jurisdiction has been formed in the Tripura Police Crime Branch headed by the Superintendent of Police (Economic Offences), with objective to take focused action against organized criminal groups, criminal syndicates, extortion gangs and such other crime.
Sources said that Tripura police had inaugurated the first ever Tripura police Crime Branch (TPCB) police station with jurisdiction in all over the state and it will conduct enquiries and investigate cases on economic offences, series crime and NDPS offices as per approval of the competent authority.
Dr Saha held a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday in New Delhi and discussed various affairs of Tripura.
A source close to the Chief Minister said that Shah asked Saha to take strict action against drug menace and drugs peddling and organized crimes.
After getting the approval from the competent authority, the CBPS would conduct inquiries on economic offences, serious crime and offences under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Such police station has been formed for instance action without any hindrance and the STF with jurisdiction of all over the state has also formed for instant police action against criminal and drug syndicates.
Police sources added that with both TPCM police station and STF, now the Crime Branch of the state police can act promptly without any assistance from police stations and they can conduct operations secretly in any part of the state to curb drug menaces and to restrain the activities of criminal groups.
