In a successful operation, the Agartala city police within 24-hours robbery recovered gold jewelleries worth Rs. 20 lakh and arrested two thieves on Saturday.

Giving details, SDPO (Sadar) Debaprasad Roy said that on Friday night at about 9.30 pm to 10 pm, one Raju Saha of Ranirbazar along with his wife came to Post Office Chowmuhani area to visit a ailing relative at Sarkar Nursing Home and there were not person to look after their house, they brought all gold jewelleries and locked inside a locker of his auto-rickshaw.

Hours later , when the couple returned to their auto-rickshaw, they noticed that the locker inside the auto-rickshaw was broken and some unknown miscreants had looted all the gold jewelleries.

Immediately, Raju Saha and his wife rushed to nearby West Agartala police station and lodged their complaint, said Roy and added that then OC of West Agartala police station Rana Chatterjee has formed a team to investigate the incident. Police have also started collecting all circumstantial evidence from the incident and based on a clue related that some miscreants from bordering Joynagar area were in movement in that area at that particular time.

Based on the information, police in the early morning of Saturday raided the house of Swamin Miah and Partha Acharjee at Joynagar area and recovered all stolen gold jewelleries under their possession.

SDPO added that it was a big and successful operation by Agartala city police and within a few hours of the crime, police recovered that high-value stolen gold jewelleries and arrested two thieves.

He said that a gang of thieves were associated with two arrested thieves and both of them were produced before a local court with police remand appeals for further interrogation and to get details of their network and other gang members.
