AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder sworn in as MLA of Tripura Assembly
Newly elected MLA and incumbent Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) , Dipak Majumder was sworn in as an MLA on Wednesday and Speaker Biswabandhu Sen administered him the oath of office and secrecy.
Dipak Majumder, who won the Assembly bypoll 7- Ramnagar assembly constituency in the by-poll held on April 19 along with the first phase of Lok Sabha elections. The seat was fell vacant after the then MLA Surajit Dutta died in December 2023
While, after the oath taking ceremony, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha speaking with media persons said that the Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation mayor won the bypoll in the Ramnagar constituency and took oath as a member of the Assembly. He said that they welcome him and expect the Assembly will see more prosperity with his assistance.
Majumder, who was the Agartala Mayor, had switched over from the Congress to the BJP before the 2018 Assembly elections. He contested the 2013 Assembly elections in the Khowai constituency but was defeated.
Dipak Majumder said that he will try to discharge his responsibility as an MLA effectively. This is a new chapter for him and also expressed his gratitude towards the people who supported him.
Ministers including Pranajit Singha Roy, Sushanta Chowdhury, Santana Chakma and Tinku Roy, Deputy Speaker Ram Prasad Paul, Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman and AMC councillor Ratna Datta were among those who attended the swearing-in ceremony.
With the induction of Majumder, the ruling BJP has 33 MLAs in the 60-member Assembly. The Tipra-Motha, which is a BJP ally, has 13 legislators while another ally, the Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura, has got an MLA. The Opposition CPI (M) and Congress have got 10 and three MLAs respectively.
