Amidst tight security Tipra-Motha calls Bandh on Saturday, Motha to blockade in 36 points
The opposition Tipra-Motha preparing for a big show on their Bandh Day on Saturday as the party has decided to create a blockade in 36 points across the state led by their senior leaders. Sources said that former chairman of Tipra-Motha and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarma will not be in the state on the crucial day and will monitor the proceedings sitting at Shillong. Ruling BJP and the CPI(M) opposed the bandh but none of them are going to physically oppose it.
However, the state government in a notification has instructed to keep all the offices open in the TTAADC areas.
The Motha leaders claimed that the blockade program will be peaceful but the nature of the bandh and urged the people to support their bandh for the greater interest of indigenous people of the state.
Animesh Debbarma, leader of the opposition said they are determined to execute the program peacefully. The police also deployed massive security forces in different places , specially in ADC areas to maintain the peace during the 12-hours ADC bandh called by Tipra-Motha.
Animesh Debbarma said the party has decided to create a blockade in 36 points and each will be led by one of the senior leaders of the party. Animesh himself will lead the blockade at Bachaibari in Khowai district while the party president Bijoy Kumar Hrangkhwal will be at Kathalbari in Ambassa. ADC Chairman Jagadish Debbarma will lead the agitation at Champaknagar, Brishaketu at Hezamara, Purna Chandra Jamatia at Udaipur-Ampi road etc.
A senior BJP leader said they in principle opposed the bandh and called the people to lead a normal life by rejecting the bandh call. However, they are not going to force any one to keep the shops or establishments open or keep away from picketing opposite the bandh.
