Arms smuggler arrested from Agartala Railway station with pistol, live rounds
Once again, the Agartala Railway station came to light after another arms smuggler was arrested with a modern pistol, magazines and live rounds by Government Railway Police (GRP) on Tuesday.
Police sources said that during routine checkup of all platforms and trains at the Agartala Railway station by GRP personnel, they noticed suspected movements of a youth.
During the regular checkup, GRP personnel detained the suspected youth and found a pistol, two magazines, and two live rounds from his possession. He was immediately arrested and taken to the GRP police station for interrogation.
During questioning, the youth confessed that his name is Subrata Dutta and that he hails from the Madhupur police station area under Sepahijala district. He revealed that the pistol had been brought from Bhagalpur district of Bihar to Agartala by train and was intended to be transported to Madhupur for sale.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of GRP police station , Raju Bhowmik said that a forensic team was also called to the spot and has begun its investigation.
The OC further stated that the accused, Subrata Dutta, will be produced before the court on Wednesday with police remand appeal for further interrogation and to unearth the inter-state arms smuggling network.
