In a concerted effort to combat drug abuse and illicit trafficking, the Indian Army launched extensive awareness drives across the northeastern states on the 'International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking' on Wednesday.

The events, held in Upper Assam, Imphal East, and Agartala, aimed to educate the public about the health risks associated with drug use and promote a drug-free lifestyle.

In Upper Assam, the drives were conducted at Phillobari Senior Secondary School, Dilli Borpatra Medium English School, and Don Bosco High School & Drug De-addiction Center.

The events saw participation from 27 teachers, 355 students, and 25 youths undergoing rehabilitation.

The lectures centered on the theme "The evidence is clear: invest in prevention," emphasizing the importance of preventive measures at the community level and coordinated efforts to tackle drug trafficking and addiction, aligning with the United Nations' goals.

In Imphal East, Manipur, the Indian Army held an awareness drive at Moirangpurel High School.

 The event included a lecture, a poster-making competition, and an interactive session with a doctor, attended by 120 students and seven teachers. The poster-making competition winners were felicitated by Indian Army personnel.

This initiative highlighted the Army's dedication to eradicating drug abuse and supporting the overall growth of young students.

At Agartala Military Station, under the aegis of Spear Corps, a campaign was organized featuring a lecture on the harmful effects of drugs on individuals, families, and society, with 96 civilians in attendance.

The event also included a medical check-up conducted by a team of medical officers and called for increased awareness to combat drug-related illegal activities.

The Indian Army has pledged to continue such programs on a larger scale as part of the 'Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan,' aiming for a drug-free India.

These initiatives underscore the Army's commitment to raising awareness and educating the public about the dangers of drug abuse, playing a crucial role in empowering communities and fostering a safer, drug-free society.
