Assam police arrested Tripura youth for trafficking Rohingyas
A youth from Hrishyamukh area under South Tripura district has been arrested by Assam police for alleged involvement of trafficking of Rohingya refugees from Bangladesh into different parts of India.
Sources said that based on the information received from detained Rohingyas , the police personnel of Bazari police station under Karimganj district of Assam in association of the police from Hrishyamukh police station raided at Sahidbedi area and managed to arrest accused youth identified as Dipanjan Baidya.
Police sources said that recently, a group of Rohingyas were arrested by police of Bazari police station in Assam's Karimganj district and after interrogation, police found direct involvement of arrested youth Dipanjan Baidya for trafficking several Rohingya refugees from Bangladesh to different parts of the country.
And by tracking the mobile number of arrested youth, a team of Assam police led by Dy.SP G D Sharma arrived at Hrishyamukh and sought help from the local police station, said SDPO(Belonia) Abhijit Das.
He said a joint team of the police of both states carried out a raid in the residence of Dipanjan at Hrishyamukh and arrested him for his alleged link in Rohingya trafficking on Monday. The arrested youth has already been taken to Karimganj for investigation and follow up action.
However, the Belonia police refused to give details on the case, but stated that there are reports of Bangladeshi infiltration along with Rohingya refugees through the bordering areas of Belonia subdivision and police have intensified the surveillance in these areas in association with the BSF.
