In a major success against cross-border smuggling, Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with Customs officials, seized a huge consignment of foreign cigarettes from the Chakma Ghat area of Teliamura under Khowai district of Tripura on Monday.

The operation was launched in the morning during which the joint team intercepted a Tata truck bearing registration number TR-01-AP-1717. Upon thorough inspection, 65 cartons containing approximately 6.5 lakh foreign cigarettes were recovered from the vehicle. The seized consignment is estimated to be worth around Rs 65 lakh in the international market.
