Assam Rifles hosts inaugural Women Football Championship 2024

Assam: The "Assam Rifles Sentinels of the North East Women Football Championship 2024" kick started on June 20 (Sunday) amid great show and gusto. The tournament features seven teams, including state teams from Assam, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Tripura, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, and the Director General Assam Rifles Women Football Team.

The opening ceremony was graced by Gulab Chand Kataria, Honrable Governor of Assam along with Smt Oinam Bembem Devi, Padma Shri, Arjuna Awardee and former Captain of Indian Women Football team and Major General SK Bhambu, Inspector General  of Assam Rifles(East).

In the inaugural match, the Directorate General Assam Rifles Women team displayed a stunning show of skill and determination in defeating the state team of Assam in a 05-02 victory. From the first whistle, the DG Assam Rifles players were relentless in their precision and teamwork thereby leaving their opponents scrambling. The first goal was scored by the state team of Assam, giving them an early lead. However, the DG Assam Rifles team quickly regained control. Goals came fast, each one a testament to their hard work and strategy. The crowd erupted with joy at every score, celebrating the undeniable talent and spirit of the DG Assam Rifles team. This commanding win sets a high bar for the championship, promising an exciting tournament ahead.

League Matches and Semi-Finals will be held at Lokra, Sonitpur, Assam whereas the Final Match will take place at Laitkor, Shillong on 12 July 2024.

This championship aims to promote women football in the region, foster teamwork along with empowering women through sports.
