Bangla diplomat visits Tripura in search of asylum seeker
Amidst continuous protest across Tripura and other parts of the country over violence against minorities in Bangladesh, a top official from the Deputy High Commission of Bangladesh in Kolkata visiting Tripura to gather information on mass protest against Bangladesh's interim government led by Muhammad Yunus.
Sources said that, Bnagladesh’s neighbouring Tripura, which is a most friendly state of the country has always maintaining a heartily relationship since their liberation war in 1971, but recent change of regime on August 5 after the then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country after mass protest, the attacks and violence against minorities and indigenous communities has increased in Bangladesh at its many fold.
But, after Muhammad Yunus took charge as the head of Bangladesh's interim government on August 8, the anti-India sentiments grew largely along attacks on minorities.
Many organizations and political parties in Tripura raised slogans condemning escalating attacks, arson and killings in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) and other parts of the country, where hundreds of minority Hindus and indigenous people, particularly from the minority Buddhist Chakma community, have reportedly been targeted.
While, concerning over continuous mass protest across Tripura, one Lieutenant Colonel Syed Asaf Reza, posted at the Deputy High Commission of Bangladesh in Kolkata arrived at the state capital on Sunday to enquire over protest and any possible asylum of leaders, former ministers and MPs of Bangladesh Awami League party, headed by Sheikh Hasina.
Sources said that Lieutenant Colonel Syed Asaf Reza , who has boarded at Stage Guest House in Agartala has also met many pro-Bangladesh people supporting the current regime including top officials of Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Agartala and had also dinner with Arif Mahummad, assistant high commissioner of Bangladesh in Agartala at star hotel in the city.
Sources said that over the instruction of Lieutenant Colonel Syed Asaf Reza, officials of Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Agartala had also enquired before Special Branch (SB) of Tripura and wanted to know if any political leader of Awami League took shelter in Tripura or seek political asylum.
Sources also confirmed that a sudden visit in Tripura by a top official of Bangladesh posted in Kolkata attributed their serious concern over continuous mass protest in Tripura against attacks on minorities.
Meanwhile, sources also said that before leaving the state on Tuesday, Lieutenant Colonel Syed Asaf Reza has also schedule to meet other people to inquire over any possible asylum of any of Awami League leaders in Tripura.
