Battala crematorium to undergo modernization, AMC Mayor
Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor Dipak Majumder on Wednesday announced a comprehensive plan to modernise the Battala crematorium in the city to improve facilities and ensure hassle-free last rites, especially during the Monsoon season.
During a visit to the crematorium on Wednesday, the Mayor said that a new emergency furnace will be constructed beside the road to address difficulties caused by frequent waterlogging in the area. Additionally, two more electric furnaces will be installed to enhance capacity and efficiency.
As part of the beautification initiative, the project will also include the installation of a fountain, high-mast lighting, and seating arrangements for people accompanying the deceased. The development work is being undertaken at an estimated cost of around Rs 85 lakh, with the new furnace expected to be completed before the onset of the Monsoon.
The Mayor further stated that the traditional Shiva temple located within the crematorium premises will be renovated and elevated with modern amenities.
He also reiterated that cremation services at the facility are provided free of cost by the municipal corporation and urged citizens to report any instance of bribery if encountered.
